St. Louis Paintings
Oil on Canvas: 24"x28" each
Note: By the nature of creating, the artist
is transferring a MOOD to the art work. Intensifying
MOOD in art is a matter of choosing color, shape,
line, form or theme that will bring the mood to the forefront. These
St. Louis paintings are cubistic in the cut up areas. They are also
Expressionistic in the the choice of colors and
the repetition of design elements and shapes.
Growing up with the sounds of
Motown, St. Louis Blues, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and Soul
Music, the artist creates as the beat goes on. Life. Lively paintings
that use color and objects to create a MOOD and MOVEMENT.
The paintings above are all oil on Canvas
and sizes all about 24'x24" give or take. Some are available,
some have been sold.
Note: Series paintings are a way to
explore a theme in art. The theme becomes more clear to the artist
as time goes on until finally the theme has been completed. At least,
for the moment.

In my cubistic landscapes, the form is the essence. No
longer is the image recognition important. It's all about breaking up
space and molding to something new. Cubism takes many directions, it can
be completely abstract or the image may be still there just changed to
a barely recognizable object. Obviously, these paintings are expressionistic
as well as cubistic.

Oil Paintings that express a Mood
Paintings above: Neighborhood
Twilight 24" x 26" (219), Dream Quest
(213) 26" x 28".
More MOODY landscapes with changed
forms and color experimentation.
Both of these Cubistic paintings were painted
in the Summer/Fall/Winter of 2002. That year I found some old photos
of South St. Louis way back in the "good old days" and
the idea began.
The memory of St. Louis is probably glorified
but nevertheless, painting it was fun.

Jazz Paintings
This series was started in 1999. I had an
idea of trying to create the excitement I felt for the Friday night,
Saturday night, off of work for the weekend, jazz club feeling.
Many are professionally framed and available for purchase at the
Creative Eye Gallery, 1004
South Gaylord St., Denver, Co. 80209, 303-774-6959.
In 1993 a glass blower gave me some wine
glasses. I started drawing them. Sometime in the mid 90's I started
painting them. I had planned to paint one every year but have lost
the inspiration for the past year or two.
In the beginning, it had to do with my life,
a metaphor and as time went on whatever it meant has become a closed
chapter or has it? A friend just recently remarked, "The teapots
are the NEW wineglasses." Yes, there is a new series in the
works...teapots.
Many years ago I saw a show at the Denver
Art Museum of Georgia O'Keefe's small paintings. They were impressive
as a group. I had already started the wine glasses and for me the
O'Keefe show was an "Ah Ha" moment. As a group small paintings
are impressive. The wine glasses are hanging in my house as a group.
Landscape
These paintings have come to me over the
years, 1990's and 2000's. It had to do with road trips and hiking.
I paint strictly from imagination because I'm not trying to capture
ABSOLUTE realism but rather, what I remember, experience and feel.
Some can be seen at Creative Eye, 1004 South
Gaylord St. in Denver (80209). You can contact Larry at 303-774-6959.
