Cubism: Breaking
up of space/objects into shapes. Cubism is a lifelong love of mine. I
studied Cezanne and Picasso as an art student.
Expressionism: Using mood by manipulation of color, form, shape, theme and placement to effectively create an emotional response to the art work. Expressionism grabs me because of the messy emotion and exciting colors. I'm one of the few people who still likes drips, splats and all the immediate movement that flowing paint produces. It's powerful and the world will remember this again one day.
Abstraction: changing the elements to reflect something other than a realistic view. A photograph is a realistic view.
A photograph is considered the gold standard for realism. After photography was developed abstraction was invented by Picasso and Braque. Suddenly, art no longer had to describe reality.
Abstracted images may not necessarily be recognizable but there is a continuum between absolute realism and absolute abstraction. You may recognize the images.
