    Why Buy Original Artwork?

    Original art is unique.  As a personal expression, art reflects emotions, experiences and individuality of the human experience.  In a home original art is a powerful statement.  If we are able to connect with the impact of original art, the expression of personal identity is enhanced in our living space which adds to the quality of life.
     
    Original art improves our environment.  Imagine bleak, bare walls or walls covered with factory produced reproductions compared with one filled with emotionally charged original art that reflects the taste of the art buyer. 

    Art connects people in a real way.  People reflect on and comment about original art.  Years ago I sold a semi nude abstract painting to a local family.  I recently found out that this painting has been hanging in their dinning room all these years.  The painting which overlooks the table was called "The Boob Painting" by the high school friends of the daughter in the family. 

     Owning original artwork that may be a little personal, edgy, questionable, not safe can be lots of fun.  Don't we know that life is sometimes a little too personal, edgy, questionable and not safe but by all means, let's DO have fun!

Homeless Lady brings art to Chicago Art Institute

In the 1970's and '80's, hundreds of Chicagoans bought paintings from Lee Godie, a bag lady who called herself a French Impressionist and sold her paintings in downtown parks and on the steps of the Art Institute.
The paintings were a novelty back then. She sold then for as little as $5 and as much as $250 or so. Sometimes she would find an offer insulting and refuse to sell them at all.
For those who have held onto Lee's work, the news is encouraging. They have sold at auction recently in the thousand-dollar range.
