Abstract Decorating Scheme

Decorating with Original Art

Think about Color!

For a bold statement in interior design use some contrasting colors.

Contrasting colors are not close together on the color wheel.

Red and blue are contrasting colors. Blue and orange are even more so, they are direct opposites. Contrasting colors create a bold, edgy contemporary color scheme. However, one of the colors needs to be dominant in the scheme to make this work.

Blogging

Frequently, I visit beautifully decorated home with expensive furnishings and yet, on the walls I see drab, impersonal artwork that looks like it was picked up from a bin in a local discount store.

Art adds drama, personality and character to a home. It's more important than the furnishing for providing personal, quirky and unique touches to a setting. Yet, art is something that many people forget about when decorating. More on this subject on my blog

Thank you for visiting my web site!

Daily Painting and Wayne Thiebaud

Wayne Thiebaud is a happy man. Perhaps because of his high spirits he is willing to share his knowledge with the world.

In interviews he talks about the high percentage of failure in art students, very few continue in art. It's difficult, painful and he speaks of how much you have to give up for little gain. He warns against becoming a "production artist" with a product to sell.

He talks about continued learning through studying of past masters and adds a curious note to discourage looking at the work of people working today as a guide because that can be confusing.

He is speaking of how to become a great artist and yet, the spark of greatness comes along in only a few cases each generation. That's the major reason, that many artists quit. Sooner or later reality hits.

I agree with everything he says and yet, I also know that in anything there is a personal twist. Thiebaud is not only happy, he is a lucky man. He worked hard and he has achieved more than almost anyone in the world of art in our time. He is not only successful but he has been able to live a life devoted to art.

Thiebaud has not had to worry about paying the rent, raising his kids or putting food on the table for most of his adult life. He came to success early and has continued. He is a testament to what is possible but is only rarely achieved. For the rest of us grunts in the trenches, there might be more of a blurry line for survival.

For me, his words are the guide that I strive for but may fall short now and then. Yet, my reason for painting every day is to work toward my personal best.  That's all any of us can do.
