Abstract Contemporary Art on this website by Charlotte Rossmann

My landscape artwork, influenced by the work of Cubist and Expressionist painters, may be called Modern Art, Contemporary, or Abstract Contemporary.
My motivation in making art is to use form, color, pattern, and shapes to create scenes from my imagination.
Cubism, in which overlapping planes, patterns and shapes give structure, defines my abstract people paintings.
An abstractionist, I use my natural environment for inspiration but do not copy what I see.
Most of my paintings are oil on canvas but some of them are oil on masonite. These painting are available for purchase. Some of the smaller paintings are on the art gallery web site Etsy.
I also sell paintings to individuals who contact me through email.

Cubism, Style of Art

Cubism is a style of art work that was started by the artist Cezanne. It was considered the first truly abstract style in art. Cezanne's beautiful canvas oils of French landscapes and still life paintings were complex compositions that he painted from life. But he also changed and invented by breaking down the forms into planes and geometric slashes of color. This concept was expanded but the forms simplified by Picasso and Braque who are credited as the first cubists.

There are those who say that Picasso stole his ideas from the African masks that he saw on exhibit in Paris at the time he was inventing this new art style of Abstraction. Looking at Picasso's strictly cubistic work, one can understand the claim. In reality, I suppose it doesn't matter. What matters is, "How does it look?" "How interesting is it?"and the answer is yes. It does look good, it is interesting.
